I remember watching the original Star Trek on TV when I was a kid. The stories seemed so futuristic. In retrospect, some of the technology is not so hot. However the acting continues to be timeless. The key, I think, was the the trio of Kirk, Spock, and Bones.
Hey. Have you heard the joke about the black men on the original Star Trek? Every time you saw them in an episode, they would get killed off quickly. Don't let them go behind a rock or anything. All you will hear is a scream, and no more black man.
There was an exception. Ohura was central to the cast. I understand it caused a bit of a stir when Kirk kissed her right there on TV. Now I do not remember. Or if I did, it did not seem too big of a deal. But it was groundbreaking for its time.
